Phase 4

Critical Thinking Questions

The NASW Code of Ethics mandates evaluation of your work with clients. Nevertheless, social workers are sometimes reluctant to engage in evaluation for a variety of reasons, or they may not know where to begin to evaluate their work. To evaluate your work with the Stone family, as required by our professional responsibilities, consider these questions:

  1. Provide goals, process and outcome measures for the following issues
    • Unresolved grief
    • Care for Ms. Stone's mother
    • Threat of losing the family home
    • Concerns about redevelopment
  2. Critically evaluate your practice. What information would help you understand, for example, how culturally sensitive your practice was, or how well you facilitated the empowerment of the Stone family? Where did your practice advance social, racial, economic, and environmental justice?
